Memorial Day is more than a national holiday—it’s a sacred time to reflect, remember, and preserve the legacies of the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom.

Nearly every family in America has someone who served. A grandfather in WWII, a brother in Iraq, a cousin in Korea, or a father in Vietnam. These are not just historical facts—they are personal, powerful, and worth protecting.

🎖 Honoring Chief Petty Officer Charles Price Geisert

This Memorial Day, we’re honored to share the story of a true American hero—Chief Petty Officer Charles Price Geisert, my husband’s "Uncle Chubb".

Born on September 30, 1933, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy and served with courage and dedication as a Chief Boatswain. He was attached to MSR-7, TF 116, MINE DIV 113, USNAVFORV, serving in Vietnam.

He began his tour on May 15, 1969, and just months later, on November 4, 1969, he gave his life in the line of duty in Kien Phong Province, South Vietnam, after coming under hostile small arms fire. The story passed down through our family is both heartbreaking and heroic.

Charles’s unit had recently captured a high-ranking official from South Vietnam. In retaliation, enemy forces devised a cruel trap—a staged wedding along the river route they knew the Navy boat would travel weeks later. They set up celebratory decorations and concealed netting beneath the water to entangle the vessel.

As the boat approached the scene, the crew slowed in a gesture of respect, unaware of the ambush. The boat became ensnared in the netting, leaving them vulnerable and exposed. At that moment, Charles had just come up from below deck, fresh from the shower and without his armored vest, to see what was happening.

It was then that the ambush began. He was struck in the heart by enemy fire.

Tragically, this happened just days after his tour was originally scheduled to end.

For his bravery and sacrifice, Chief Petty Officer Charles Price Geisert was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

He was more than a serviceman—he was a father, husband, son, brother, and uncle. His story is not just a part of history—it’s a legacy that must be remembered and passed down with honor. There is a website devoted to his memory where people have and can still leave remembrances of him. https://www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces/18211/CHARLES-P-GEISERT/page/2/
